Farewell my friend

At 4:30 AM my alarm buzzed. I woke up. She was asleep on her seat: her face tilted towards my side, her left hand below her head, and her right hand sandwiched between her folded legs.

I wanted to wake her up to say my farewell. But I couldn’t. So I wrote her a note:

I did not want to wake you up. I left at 4:45. I hope our paths cross again in the future. I really enjoyed my time with you. I wish you all the happiness in life.

I did not have the means to stick this note. I wanted her to see this as the first thing when she wakes up. So I adjusted this note with an optimistic hope at the back of the seat following her side.

As I collected my bags from under my seat and was starting to leave, she snapped out of her sleep. She was startled to see me leave. With her sleepy voice, she asked, “Leaving?”.

I nodded, and bent forward to put my hand on her forehead. I pressed gently and asked her to go back to sleep.

“It is ok”, I said, “I will call you”.

She went back to sleep with a peaceful expression on her face. The bus dropped me. I kept looking at it until it was far away.
